Sub-Zero EC 08: what it means and what to do

The short answer

EC 08 on an older Sub-Zero 600 or 700 Series is a temperature sensor error: the control is reading one of the temperatures incorrectly. It isn't something you can repair yourself, but most units keep cooling with an EC 08 showing.

EC 08 (the service indicator will also be flashing) is a temperature sensor error. The electronic control has detected that it is reading one of the temperatures incorrectly.

It is not a user-repairable error. The good news is that most units can tolerate an EC 08 and still continue to cool.

What to do if EC 08 is displayed

  1. Clean the condenser, especially if a second code, EC 40 or EC 50, is also showing.
  2. Monitor the fridge and freezer temperatures.
  3. If the condenser is clean and temperatures are at or close to normal, turn the power off to the unit, wait a minute, and restore power.
  4. If EC 08 comes back, contact your factory-certified servicer for diagnosis.

EC 05, EC 06, EC 07 and EC 08 are all sensor (thermistor) errors on the older 600 and 700 Series. Newer Sub-Zero models use completely different codes.
